A 13-YEAR-OLD STOLE THE SHOW: BELTRAMINO’S COMEBACK CROWNS AN ELECTRIC PUBLICIS SAPIENT WPR CIRCUIT #8 IN MIAMI

The eighth stop of the Publicis Sapient WPR Circuit packed Reserve Padel SoLé Mia for three days: 112 teams and 224 players across four Open and three Women’s divisions, delivering the kind of final that circuits are built for: a 13-year-old, down a set and a break, with maturity and poise beyond her year, and never giving up.

In the Women’s D1 final, touted by many courtside as the match of the entire event:  Ornella Beltramino, 13, and partner Marta Morga Alonso clawed back from 2-6, and an early break down in the second, to defeat Jordana Lujan and Luicelena Perez 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 ,  avenging their loss to the same pairing at the USA Open just weeks earlier, and sealing Beltramino’s second consecutive WPR Circuit title. With the win, Marta Morga climbs to 2nd overall in the Publicis Sapient Leaderboard Race.

For context on how unusual that is: at 13, Beltramino is climbing to the top of US women’s padel rankings and winning major events — back-to-back titles at WPR Circuit #7 and #8,  and following her win in Miami she made a historic debut for Team USA at the FIP World Padel Championship in Doha, one of the youngest athletes ever to compete at the International Padel Federation’s World Cup. In her very first match of the tournament, Beltramino and Morga riding their team momentum from Miami, secured a stunning victory over Portugal. Already holding the World No. 1 junior ranking in the FIP Promises U14 category, her transition to the senior international stage marks her as a future face of American padel.

The Open D1 final was billed as a coin-flip and played like one until the very end: Sergio Conde and Juan Manuel “Guga” Vazquez found their way out of an intense second set tie-breaker, defeating Max Rozas and Guillermo Cagigas 6-2, 7-6 to take the men’s crown. Top seeds Daniel Diaz and Jose David Serrano were forced to withdraw after the draw was made, with Serrano on crutches following an automobile accident earlier in the week.
